A Note from the LYI Director

Thank you for visiting the Teen Web Site hosted by the Loudoun Youth Initiative (LYI). We are proud of this site and what it stands for, and hope that you will visit here frequently. The LYI is a Loudoun County Board of Supervisors-sponsored effort to harness the power of collaboration by bringing the local government, businesses, faith-based organizations, schools, non-profits, community organizations, and interested citizens together to listen to, work with, and provide for the needs of the youth in Loudoun County. Our goal is to make Loudoun County the best place to grow up.

The LYI began during the winter of 2004, and has been gaining momentum ever since. From the initial phases of identifying key stakeholders, to bringing them together to form a team to guide the process, to listening to a cross section of Loudoun County youth as they enumerated their perceived needs, to bringing leaders together from all walks of life to begin developing a strategy for addressing these identified needs, to the beginning stages of implementation, this LYI has forged “full steam ahead.” We continue to reach out to interested youth and adults, to both involve them in the process, and to listen to their thoughts and ideas.

It is vitally important to the health of our community that we all invest and re-invest in our most precious resource, the youth of Loudoun County. Whether your investment takes the form of your time and energy, your support and leadership, or financial resources, please understand the difference you can make to the future of Loudoun County by simply getting involved! Mental Health & Substance Abuse Treatment for Youth

The Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation/Substance Abuse Services (MH/MR/SAS) provides services to mentally disabled Loudoun County residents, including mental health/substance abuse outpatient, emergency services, mental retardation case management, job coaching, adult foster care and early intervention programs, residential services and outreach in all three disability areas

Family Connection

LCPS Parent Resource Center
The Loudoun County Parent Resource Center (PRC) is a place where parents and professionals can come to learn about different disabilities, the special education process, and resources available to special needs students and their families, or to families whose children are experiencing learning difficulties. In addition, the Center provides a variety of workshops, maintains a lending library, and offers families consultation regarding educational issues and community services.

Center for Research on Education, Diversity & Excellence
CREDE is a federally funded research and development program focused on improving the education of students whose ability to reach their potential is challenged by language or cultural barriers, race, geographic location, or poverty.

Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted
SENG is dedicated to fostering environments in which gifted adults and children, in all their diversity, understand and accept themselves and are understood, valued, nurtured and supported by their families, schools, workplaces and communities.
