Our Committees
musical
Battle of the bands
Battle of the Bands is a planning committee that organizes and leads big events in Loudoun such as Battle of the Bands and Loudoun Arts Day. Throughout the year, we focus on marketing and planning Battle of the Bands, which is a competition between talented, teen musicians across Loudoun for over $900 in prizes. Teens in this committee learn how to market for large events, delegate tasks, work collaboratively, organize and plan details, and work to meet deadlines.
Innovative
Creative
YAC’s Creative Committee is responsible for planning, organizing, and hosting unique events for teens in Loudoun County, with an emphasis on events that work to address community issues and needs. Last May, the Creative Committee hosted TEDxYouth@Brambleton, an event at which seven talented speakers gave speeches surrounding “The Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of the 21st Century Teen Experience” to an audience of about one hundred people. Currently, the Creative Committee is planning another TEDxYouth Conference, along with other events including a charity basketball tournament and a cultural night. The Creative Committee is also in charge of developing and maintaining YAC’s website and helping other committees with their marketing efforts. All told, the Creative Committee is driven by a single word: CREATIVITY!
Benevolent
Outreach
Our Outreach committee is in charge of advertising YAC and different YAC events such as Battle of the Bands, Loudoun Arts Day, or Ted X.
We manage YAC Social Media accounts on multiple platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Our goal is to reach out to teens in Loudoun County and inform them about various opportunities. Outreach is also in charge of designing posters, brochures, and flyers for various events.
Internally, we plan parties and events for YAC members for special occasions such as holiday parties and team building activities. We have held Halloween party, Christmas party, College tour and are planning to visit King’s Dominion for team building. When available, we help out with other committees and work on their projects together. YAC stickers, t-shirts, and sweatshirts are also a part of outreach’s responsibilities!
Involved
Policy and Activism
The civic engagement and youth activism committee works to incorporate teens in decision-making around the county. Teens get an opportunity to make changes to the policy that directly affects their lives. With events like Youth in Government Day, teens are able to get a deeper understanding of the leaders in modern government. This committee strives to get teens involved not only in leadership but also in community service opportunities throughout the community. This committee also works with community organizations to host drives within the Youth Advisory Council, the drive this year being for Loudoun Hunger Relief. Every year the youth work with the Forward Turn organization to provide grants to nonprofits that focus on teens and are often run by teens. The focus on civic engagement and activism gets teens prepared to face real world issues and tackle them head on, with the knowledge, leadership, and community service under their belt.
